Yes. He got old and had to retire. But when you say his "volume and distance was dramatically decreased" they sure didn't for those two scenes. And there are others. He could've filled a shot glass with Mae Meyers and his blasts traveled several feet. As his popularity went up with the North Pole series, he overbooked and did too many scenes.
